⏳ 1. Short /ĭ/ as 'i' or 'y' [DEBT]
Today's list covers i in closed syllables (is, big, did, win). Debt Note: Vowel y as /ĭ/ (gym, myth) will follow in later lists.
📌 2. 'q' Followed by 'u'
In English words, q is always followed by u (quit). Together, qu makes the consonant blend sound /kw/.
⏳ 3. Long /ā/ Spellings [DEBT]
Today's list covers -ey / -ay (they, hey, hay). Debt Note: Other spellings (a, a-e, ai, ea, ei) will follow in later lists.
📌 4. Homophones (hay / hey)
Homophones sound identical (/heɪ/) but differ in meaning: hay is dried feed grass; hey is a friendly greeting!
