/j/ spelled dge after a short vowel (ridge, bridge, edge, know•ledge).
Rule 2 • Consonant-le
Count back 3 letters from end and divide (a•ble, ta•ble, sim•ple). -ible keeps c/g soft.
Rule 3 & 4 • Open & Closed
Closed syllable vowels are short; accented open vowels are long (a•ble, ta•ble).
Rule 5 & [Deb] 6 • /k/ as <ch>
/k/ spelled ch (ache, stom•ach); [Deb] /k/ can be spelled c, ch, ck, k.
