📚 Rules to Remember • Week 11
Rule 1 • /ō/ Spelled <o-e>
Vowel-consonant-silent e makes o say its long sound /ō/ (home, hope, note, broke).
Rule 2 & [Deb] 3 • Alternate <o> Spellings
[Deb] /ō/ can be o, o-e, oa, oe, oo, ou, ough, ow; -se often says /z/ (chose, those).
Rule 4 • /ŭ/ Spelled <o-e> (Rare)
Silent e words where o says short /ŭ/ (love, a•bove, some, come, done); keeps words from ending in v.
Rule 5 • /ū/ Spelled <u-e> & Irregulars
u-e spells /yō͞o/ or /ū/ (use); irregular sight words include one (/wʌn/) and gone.
