Rule 1 • Long /ē/ Spelled <ee>
The vowel team ee always says long /ē/ in standard English (free, three, see, deep, street).
Rule 2 & [Deb] 3 • Alternate <e> Spellings
[Deb] /ē/ can be e, e-e, ea, ee, ei, ey, i, ie, y; ee is one of the most reliable spellings.
Rule 4 • Irregular Sound in <been>
In been, the vowel team ee uniquely says short /ɪ/ in American English pronunciation (/bɪn/).
