📚 Rules to Remember • Week 13
Rule 1 • Suffix <-al>
The suffix -al forms adjectives from Latin roots or nouns (actual, usual, practical; less common than -le).
Rule 2 • Suffix <-ly> Keeps Silent-e
When adding the consonant suffix -ly to base words ending in silent-e, keep the e (completely, definitely, immediately).
Rule 3 • Double-L in <-ally>
When a base word ends in -al, adding -ly results in the double-l ending -ally (actually, usually, practically, generally).
Rule 4 • Homophone Pair
Distinguish homophones: ewe (an adult female sheep) vs. you (second-person pronoun).
