Rule 1 • Base in <-ent> Uses <-ence>
If a base word ends in -ent, the noun form uses -ence (different → difference, independent → independence).
Rule 2 • Double Intro Rule
When adding a prefix to a base beginning with the same letter with which the prefix ends, the letter remains doubled (mis•spell).
Rule 3 • Latin Suffixes <-ent> / <-ence>
-ent forms adjectives/nouns, while -ence forms state or quality nouns (reference, existence, convenient).
Rule 4 • Homophone Distinction
