📚 Rules to Remember • Week 18
Rule 1 • Capitalize Days of the Week
All seven days of the week are proper nouns and must be capitalized; each ends in phonogram ay (Sunday, Monday...).
Rule 2 • Silent Letters in <Wednesday>
Pronounced /ˈwɛnz.deɪ/; note silent d and silent middle e in Wed•nes•day.
Rule 3 • Letter <s> Says /sh/ Before <u>
In sure and su•gar, the initial consonant s represents the /sh/ sound before u.
Rule 4 • Phonogram <ur> & Homophones
ur says /er/ in hurt, turn, return, purpose, further. Distinguish homophones fir (tree) from fur (animal pelt).
