📚 Rules to Remember • Week 20
Rule 1 • Two Sounds of Digraph <wh>
<wh> says /hw/ (or /w/) in why, what, when, where, which, white, while, but says /h/ before o in who, who's, whose, whole.
Rule 2 • Place Words Contain <here>
Memory hint: "here is in there and where" — all three refer to locations and share the base letters h-e-r-e.
Rule 3 • Contrast <lose> vs. <whose>
Spelling hint: "Whose hose did you lose?" Lose has a single o and sounds like /lōōz/ (unlike loose).
Rule 4 • Two Words: <a while>
A while is two separate words meaning "a period of time" (e.g., rest for a while).
