b. Mom helped me the birthday present in shiny blue paper and a gold bow.
c. Before you the fragile carton, give two light taps on the lid to make sure it is shut.
📚 Rules to Remember • Week 21
Rule 1 • Phonogram <aw> at Word Ends
Phonogram aw is used at the end of base words because English words do not end in u (saw, draw).
Rule 2 • <w> Changes <or> to Say /er/
The letter w changes the sound of or that follows it, making it say /er/ (work, word, world).
Rule 3 • Open <o-> Says Long /ō/
In open first syllables ending in a vowel, o says its long sound /ō/ (o•pen, o•ver, on•ly).
Rule 4 • Homophone Distinctions: <rap> vs. <wrap>
Rap (knock/strike, begins with r) vs. wrap (enclose/bundle, begins with silent w: wr-).
